Major renovations and flood project underway at Smucker Park
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The park located near Kofa High School is currently under heavy construction.
The improvements are part of the $18 million detention basin project.
The effort includes street improvements, floodgate installation, and a pump station.
Alan Quintero, Yuma County's Deputy County Engineer said, “It’s probably the biggest project we’ve had in recent time. It's been in the works for several years, the flood control district is happy it's taking place.”
Avenue A will see a partial shutdown starting in February 2024 which should last for about two months.
Smucker Park will also see temporary modifications as the project progresses
“We’re going be closing portions of the park. Our plan is to remain open, build a temporary path to allow for that to happen so that should be as far as the only inconvenience people should expect," said Quintero.
The project is expected to last for one year.
