Former MCAS daycare worker sentenced in child abuse case

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA/KECY) - A former Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma daycare worker who pleaded guilty to abusing multiple children while she was employed was sentenced this morning.

29-year-old Katherine McCombs received five years of supervised probation for abusing seven children.

Some parents of the victims spoke in court today, saying they were displeased with the sentencing as McCombs can work around children again upon completion of her probation.

Last month, McCombs pleaded guilty to seven modified counts of child abuse.

That consists of two felony counts of child abuse and five misdemeanor counts of child endangerment.

Yuma Superior Court Judge Roger Nelson said he hopes McCombs never experiences the pain the victims and their families are facing, as McCombs is pregnant herself.

Judge Nelson continued saying he "does not believe she is evil, but terribly misguided."
