RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper has signed into law revisions to new abortion restrictions taking effect in the state this weekend. The Democratic governor signed on Thursday changes that the Republican-controlled legislature sent him. His quick action should minimize the scope of any order from a judge deciding whether to block temporarily portions of the law challenged in litigation before most of the new restrictions begin Saturday. Cooper opposed the original abortion changes passed this spring, which includes a near-ban after 12 weeks of pregnancy. He vetoed them but the General Assembly completed an override. He said Thursday it was still important to clarify rules and provide certainty.
