New research on sexual assault victims

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - New research shows sexual assault victims without health insurance end up paying thousands of dollars for e-r visits.

The data revealed that 16 percent of victims had to pay for their emergency room visits in 20-19.

The average cost for a visit was around 35 hundred bucks.

For those that were pregnant, it was about 45 hundred.

The violence against women act of 19-94 covers the cost of collecting evidence for sexual assault kits.

But researchers say health care facilities can still charge for other things such as testing, counseling and emergency contraception.
