Newly appointed Election Services Director prepares for upcoming special election
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The newly appointed Yuma County Election Services Director will be overseeing the first vote by mail only special election for the City of Yuma.
A lifelong Yuma native said she has what it takes to lead her team to ensure every vote is counted in the upcoming special election.
Francisca “Kika” Guzman started with the election department more than a decade ago.
She said her extensive experience and knowledge have prepared her for the city's upcoming special election.
This type of election, although new to Yuma is not new to Guzman.
“So we’ve had the City of San Luis, Town of Wellton, that have had in the past an all-mail election. It is not our first rodeo for an all-mail election…we are prepared for the process," said Guzman.
The special election is slated for this November.
On the ballot, voters will decide many things including if the mayor and city council members deserve salary increases.
Guzman is confident her team is set and ready for the election. “We are incorporating in-person training for our election workers, they will be qualified to work this election.”
