Construction underway for UFC fight at the White House

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - Construction crews have started to build the area for next month's UFC fight at the White House.

The open-air stadium on the South Lawn, complete with an octagonal fighting ring, is expected to hold some 5,000 spectators attending the UFC Freedom 250 event on June 14, which also corresponds with President Donald Trump's 80th birthday.

The league is also planning for as many as 85,000 people to watch on massive screens from the ellipse, a patch of turf just south of the white house.

Over the weekend, UFC released renderings of what the spaces will look like.

Four fighters are on the card for the event: Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, Justin Gaethje and Ciryl Gane.

UFC Freedom 250 will air June 14 on Paramount+ at 1 p.m. Mountain Time. To learn more about the upcoming UFC event, click here.
