More than 70 teams set to compete in 2026 Cali-Baja Cup in Calexico

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) - More than 70 youth soccer teams from across the region and Mexico are set to compete in the 2026 Cali-Baja Cup in Calexico this weekend.

The binational tournament officially kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. at Crummett Park, with games continuing Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Teams from Yuma and San Luis, Arizona, as well as communities across California and Mexico, will participate in the tournament.

Players ranging in age from 4 to 18 will take part, bringing families and visitors from both sides of the border to the Imperial Valley.

The tournament is also expected to highlight the connection between Calexico and its sister city, Mexicali.

"It's a binational cause," organizers said. "We have kids coming in from Mexico. We have kids coming in from all over California and Yuma and other places. This is very important for the city of Calexico as well as Mexicali, our sister city. It brings a lot of joy for our youth."

Safety operations will also be in place throughout the tournament to help ensure the safety and well-being of players, families and visitors.

To prepare for the influx of teams and spectators, the city renovated its five soccer fields ahead of the tournament.

With more than 70 teams expected to participate, the Cali-Baja Cup will bring a weekend of competition and community to Calexico while celebrating soccer's ability to connect communities on both sides of the border.
