Local softball star remains positive during spring sports season cancellation
(KYMA, KECY)-The simple phrase of ‘no days off’ could very well describe senior student-athlete Janyssa Martin.
Martin the ace pitcher for the Central Spartans and power hitter had one goal in mind during her time at Central, and that was bringing a CIF-San Diego title home.
Last year the Spartans were so close, but a walk-off homer in the last inning would cost them the game. This year, Martin was determined to come back better and stronger her senior year.
If you look at Central softball's schedule before the infamous Coronavirus put a halt to spring sports, you’ll see mostly dubs, because that was the goal this year. But now, Janyssa Martin and the squad have come to terms with the fact that all that is now an illusion.
A dream of the past and there is nothing left to do than to look into the future and move on.
The star pitcher’s schedule is no different during the quarantine. She still works out and practices her pitching, hitting, and throwing at least two times a day, on top of school duties.
See? No days off.
Now she’s preparing for her D1 Journey at UNLV, where she has earned a spot on the team.
But for now, she’s enjoying the little things like appreciating her family time.
“I feel like sometimes I do take my family for granted like my mom does so much for me, she takes me to practice every day and now I’m like wow! I did not thank you every day, but I should have because you do not know when that can be taken from you”

Martin will be attending the University of Las Vegas on a softball scholarship.
