Bystanders stop attempted kidnapping in Calexico

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - According to the Calexico Police Officers Association (CPOA) bystanders wrestled a suspect to the ground who tried to take a little girl from her grandmother.

The CPOA says the incident happened on March 3 and has since been under investigation. The attempted kidnapping happened at a downtown business in Calexico.

The video footage shows the suspect grabbing the child and trying to flee, but heroic bystanders tackled the person to the ground. Bystanders held the 19-year-old suspect down until Calexico police officers arrived.

The suspect was booked into the Imperial County Jail for kidnapping.

The CPOA wants to thank the bystanders for their quick response.

CPOA says this is a reminder parents have to keep an eye on their children while out in public.
