Former UFC champion Cain Velasquez denied bail; judge says ‘risk is too great’
Alleged murder case ongoing, Velasquez denied bail by judge
(KYMA, KECY/CBS) - ESPN reports of a court spokesperson saying Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was denied bail in his attempted murder case.
Velasquez's attorney wanted him on bail so he could return to his family but the court judge stated the former UFC champion can't be out due to this "extreme recklessness."
A Santa Clara County district attorney says the former UFC champion was arrested on February 28 after chasing and attempting to shoot 43-year-old Harry Goularte in a vehicle who was charged with molesting one of Velasquez's relatives. Another man in the car, Paul Bender, took the shot through his arm and torso.
Dozens of supporters were in the courtroom wearing "#freecain" shirts and one spoke out on the case saying, "we plan on vindicating Cain. We plan on getting Cain back to this family. 40 years of doing this, I can't believe this is what the criminal justice system thinks is the right outcome."
Cain Velasquez has another court date set for April 12.
