Military recruitment goals not met in 2021

(KYMA, KECY) - Defense Department data shows that the military fell short of its recruitment goals for nearly all the services in 2021.

The department blames the pandemic.

The Army and Navy failed to reach their goals in recruiting for active-duty, reserve and Army National Guard.

The Air Force and Space Force met their goals for active-duty components.

However, the Air Force missed the target in the National Guard and reserve components.

The Marine Corps was the only service that exceeded its recruitment goals for both active duty and reserves.

The Army recently announced it is offering a bonus of up to $50,000 to some new recruits who enlist for six years.

That's the largest bonus amount the branch has ever offered.
