Sonora restricts alcohol sales on Election Day
Sonorans can't buy alcohol without purchasing food in restaurants
SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Sonora (KYMA, KECY) - The state of Sonora plans to suspend the sale of alcohol on Sunday, June 6, due to the federal and state election.
Tribuna de San Luis reports restaurants will be the only business able to sell it accompanied by food. Sonora's Secretary of the Treasury, Raúl Navarro Gallegos, limits the sale, consumption, and distribution starting at 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m.
Businesses that do not comply will receive a fine. Sources say companies can resume the use of alcohol on June 7. Government officials placed the one-day suspension to prevent disturbances during election day.
