Imperial police make arrest in connection with bedroom break-in
17-year-old says burglar broke into her bedroom and stole her car - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports
IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial Police Department (IPD) says it has made an arrest in connection with a burglary and car theft.
The alleged victim is a 17-year-old girl from Imperial, she claims someone broke into her house while she and her mother were asleep. Police say the suspect is now behind bars and is being charged with burglary and grand theft auto.
Imperial Police also say that the suspect went in to the 17-year-old girl's room while she was asleep. He then took her car keys and stole her vehicle.
The girl woke up the next morning to go to school when she realized that her car was missing. She looked at her home camera footage, and when she did, this is what she saw:
Police believe that the 2019 white Camry is in Mexico. They also add that the suspect attempted to break into other homes in the Valley as well.
"Mr. Lopez admitted to attempting to break into four different locations in the Paseo del Sol subdivision in the City of Imperial," Corporal Jeremey Schaffer said.
Police add that the suspect is in his 20’s and is being held at a $500,000 bond. He is currently at the Imperial County Jail as this investigation continues.
