Border Patrol: 5 arrested in failed smuggling attempt
TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)-Five undocumented immigrants were arrested Thursday after agents found them hiding inside a Nissan.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection said one Mexican national and four Guatemalans were found during an immigration stop near Tucson.
Agents say four men were packed inside the vehicle's trunk, while the fifth lay on the floor of the vehicle's back seat.
The vehicle was seized, the driver was arrested, and the five undocumented immigrants will be processed for immigration violations.
U.S. Border Patrol officials warn that placing humans in a vehicle’s trunk or bed can be extremely dangerous.
The risks, including carbon monoxide poisoning and serious injury or death in the event of a vehicle collision, increase when people are hidden in compartments to avoid detection by law enforcement officials.
