Man convicted of orchestrating Tupac’s murder sentenced

LAS VEGAS (NBC, KYMA) - The man convicted of orchestrating the drive-by murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas 30 years ago was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison Tuesday.

Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, was found guilty of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon back in August.

In a Las Vegas courtroom, Judge Carli Kierny told Davis, "You don't get to take a man from his family. You don't get to take his very life, his whole life, and just walk away from it, especially when that man is Tupac Shakur."

Judge Kierny also including a 20-year mandatory enhancement for profiting off the murder.

Prosecutors had asked for the maximum possible sentence, citing five other convictions and Davis' public boasting.

The case had gone cold for nearly three decades before Davis' arrest in 2023 following the release of his memoir, "Compton Street Legend."

In it, Davis recounted his involvement in Shakur's assassination and described himself as a "shot caller" for the South Side Crips.

Davis remains the only person convicted in Shakur's murder.

He was not accused of firing the fatal shots, but prosecutors argued he provided the gun and helped orchestrate the attack.
