More wind and colder temperatures for Friday

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - A fast-moving weather system arriving tomorrow morning will bring a chance of light precipitation and locally breezy/windy conditions to the region.

Rain chances are looking little to none for the Desert Southwest, and greater rain chances are looking at the higher terrain areas.

For the next several days mainly dry and below-normal temperatures across our area.

By this weekend and into early next week, below-freezing morning readings are likely across many lower desert communities through the weekend.

Stronger west winds will bring breezier conditions for Imperial County tonight, with wind speeds of 15-20 MPH and expected gusts of 20 MPH or stronger.

By Friday morning, stronger winds will start to impact Yuma County areas with winds favoring the north and northwest where the highest wind gusts expected of 20 MPH or stronger.

Breezy to windy conditions will linger for Yuma County areas from Friday to Monday where patchy blowing dust is likely on Monday.

DROUGHT UPDATE: So far January has brought above-average precipitation for much of the state which is bringing more improvement to our short-term drought.

Drought coverage has dropped by around 10% since last week. Drought conditions now cover 21% of Arizona, down from 32% last week.
