Border still busy despite Title 42 currently in place
Migrants continue to cross at the Morelos Dam gaps daily
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - Crossing activity in Yuma only seems to be increasing as the Title 42 deadline approaches.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told visiting congressmen last week over 1,000 migrants are being apprehended in Yuma every single day.
CBP has not yet released national numbers for March but recorded over 150,000 encounters at the southern border in February and are on pace for 2 million apprehensions by the end of the year.
Migrants at the wall come from countries all over the world and say they’re making the trip because they see others coming to the united states hoping to work here.
“I saw on television many people are coming to the United States because there were many opportunities to work. We flew to Cancun and came the rest of the way by land," Leida Aguilar, an immigrant from Cuba said.
Once Title 42 is lifted May 23rd the department of homeland security is expecting the numbers to rise as they are planning on a potential of 18,000 arrivals daily along the southern border.
