Arizona Senators to President Biden: Keep Title 42 in place
Senators Kelly and Sinema, in a joint letter to the President, say ending the policy without a plan to replace it could hurt border commmunities
YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) - On March 24, U.S. Senators from Arizona Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema sent a letter to President Biden, advising him against ending Title 42 without a response plan in place to help manage what could be a surge in crossings, should the policy end.
The senators in a joint statement said quote, “We urge your administration not to make any changes to Title 42 implementation until you are completely ready to execute and coordinate a comprehensive plan that ensures a secure, orderly and humane process at the border.”
They specifically highlight the strain an even bigger increase in crossings could put on Arizona border communities like Yuma.
Many of their Democratic colleagues including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have called on the Biden administration to end Title 42 as the April 2nd deadline approaches.
Kelly and Sinema added they do not want Title 42 to be used indefinitely.
