YCSO arrests illegal immigrant for murder
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) arrested an illegal immigrant for murder.
In a press release, the incident occurred on September 7, 2022 at approximately 8:17pm in the Mohawk Mountain Range. In addition, someone dialed 911 for both a possible murder and assistance for not being able to continue walking through the desert.
When YCSO responded to the scene, they learned that the suspect, victim and caller were a part of a group of Mexican immigrants entering the United States illegally.
Border Patrol agents then apprehended one of the group members; the member told them that their guide, a 34-year-old man, might have hurt someone in the group.
He also told them that both the suspect and victim were heading to a water tank, but the suspect came back alone. The suspect told them that the victim fell off the cliff due to fatigue and injury.
Afterwards, Border Patrol agents responded to the area and found the victim. However, they did not locate the suspect; they believed he went back to Mexico.
YCSO's Search and Rescue Team then responded and recovered the body, and their Criminal Investigations Bureau took over the investigation.
After further interviews, YCSO arrested and booked the suspect into the Yuma County Detention Center on January 16, 2023 for 2nd Degree Murder. Earlier, Border Patrol agents detained the suspect for entering the country illegally, leading to the arrest.
However, YCSO will not identify the victim until they notify the next of kin.
If anyone has any information regarding the case, then contact YCSO at (928) 783-4427 or dial 78-CRIME to remain anonymous. They can submit an anonymous tip on YCSO's website.
