Children’s Festival – Public welcome to a celebration of the arts

Yuma's own historic Main Street will once again bring wonder to life

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's fitting that the Children's Festival of the Arts is held in Historic Downtown Yuma. On its own downtown and the riverfront area is artistry at its best.

But, on this day the street surrounded by architectural masterpieces will open a gateway into the wonders of children and those deemed children at heart.

The event uses most of Main Street as a temporary canvas, booths scattered throughout. Each, is a separate station, each a doorway into a child's imagination.

Even onlookers standing on the sidewalk looking in, also witness the beauty that is art. Ana Padilla the Yuma Art Center's Event Coordinator says that although the event is catered to children its purpose is to bring families and the community together.

Padilla says, one of her favorite parts of the Children's Festival of the Arts is watching a parent lose themselves in their child's imagination. That she says is what art is all about.

So, on April 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the community is invited to witness this wonder. Even those without children are invited to come out and enjoy the live performances.

Padilla says that if the temps get to be too much, the public is more than welcome to enter the Yuma Art Center to cool off and see its exhibits all created by children.

Padilla says that this incredible event could not be possible without their partners at the City of Yuma Parks and Recreation Department and their sponsors Yuma Regional Medical Center and Yuma Rotary.
