Former Yuma Jaycees Rodeo Chairwoman fighting cancer

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - This month Yuma celebrated the 75th Annual Jaycees Silver Spur Rodeo!

It was a great turnout and a large part thanks to the event's treasurer and organizer, Peggy Collins.

Collins is one of Yuma Jaycees Rodeo’s most familiar faces!

She’s been an instrumental part of the planning process for more than 20 years.

Her father introduced her to the rodeo in her teenage years and she fell in love ever since.

Collins even served as rodeo chairman four times, the most anyone has ever held that title.

Just months before this year's rodeo, Collins was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer.

However, her rodeo team says she didn't let this disease get her down.

Damian Moore said, “She very much loves rodeo. It's apart of her life and it has been for many years now. "

"She’s a fighter, that's who she is and she’s not going to let something get her down. "

"She’s going to keep going on with life the way she’s lived it before she was diagnosed with cancer. She’s not going to let it beat her. She’s going to beat it."

Moore says rodeo has helped Collins through her fight with cancer.

While its a very stressful job overseeing the entire production of the rodeo, Collins was still able to bring in new sponsors for this year’s event.
