Kofa JROTC wins big at State Rifle Competition
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Kofa High School Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) continues its momentum, claiming first place at a state competition.
Kofa JROTC participated Arizona JROTC State Rifle Meet on January 11, at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix.
Kofa Team 1, made up of Nickolas Wissler, Daphne Rivera, Keilem Vazquez, and Casey Clark won first place out of all 15 teams competing.
Nicklolas Wissler also received Top Shooter overall out of 55 shooters, winning first place in both prone and kneeling positions.
Kofa Team 2, made up of Galindo Garcia, Corian Castillo, and Brayden Waldron finished in sixth place, also placing within the top half of all shooters.
“This is the first time the Kofa MCJROTC Rifle Team has won the AZ State JROTC Rifle Meet,” said Maj Todd Birney, Kofa’s JROTC Instructor. “They have set the bar for future rifle teams.”
The Kofa JROTC has received multiple awards in recent months. The program is nationally ranked and was recently recognized as a Naval Honors Program.
