Grant awarded for construction of Intermodal Transportation Center in Calexico

CALEXICO Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC) is excited to announce that they are the recipients of a U.S. Department of Transportation, Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant.

ICTC was awarded $12.8 million that will go towards the Intermodal Transportation Center in Calexico.

The new facility will be located on Third St. and Rockwood Ave.

The facility will provide several amenities such as purchasing public transit tickets, shaded canopies waiting areas, benches, bicycle racks, security infrastructure, public restrooms, and an ADA-compliant pedestrian sidewalk.

This project is expected to reduce vehicle miles and increase annual passenger ridership which can help reduce emissions.

“It will be ready to serve a great population that goes to work every day from all over the Valley from Mexicali coming home and has a potential to reduce vehicular traffic at the port of entry,” said City of Calexico Mayor Raul Ureña.

ICTC is expected to have the project completed by July 2026.
