Caltrans to close westbound and eastbound SR-98
CALEXICO, Calif. (NBC) - Caltrans will close the eastbound and westbound lanes of State Route 98 (SR-98).
In a press release, the lanes will close on Tuesday, January 3 at 9:00pm. This will also take place in between Ollie Avenue and State Route 111 (SR-111).
Furthermore, Caltrans will place concrete barriers to reduce the eastbound and westbound traffic to one lane. This will last until Fall of 2023.
However, the maintenance schedule is subject to change depending on weather, traffic and other maintenance problems.
At any rate, this is Stage 2 in Caltrans' efforts to widen SR-98 and SR-111, and to address border-related traffic. In addition, the widening of the lanes will improve pedestrian safety and accommodate the Calexico West Port of Entry Expansion project.
Back in November, Caltrans completed Stage 1, with the opening of the new westbound SR-98 and SR-111.
