Second presumptive coronavirus case in Arizona

MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZ. (KYMA, KECY) - A presumptive positive case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Maricopa County Tuesday, bringing the Arizona state count to two.

Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) confirmed a man in his 20's has the virus. The man is not hospitalized, rather he's recovering at home.

MCDPH and Arizona Department of Health Services says the individual is a known contact of a presumed case outside of Arizona who has traveled to an area known to have community spread of coronavirus.

Both cases of coronavirus are from Maricopa County.

“With the case counts increasing around the country, it is no surprise that we have another case here in Maricopa County,” said Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, medical director for disease control for Maricopa County Department of Public Health.

“The good news is that this individual is in stable condition and is expected to have a full recovery, as are most people who become infected with this disease.”

After MCDPH received the presumptive positive after testing, they proceeded to interview close contacts of the man, and recommended those contact monitor for symptoms and quarantine themselves for 14 days.

Coronavirus is spread mostly through respiratory droplets from coughs or sneezes. Symptoms of the virus include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

To try to avoid the coronavirus and other viruses avoid contact with people who are sick, avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, stay home when sick, cover your cough and sneeze, disinfect frequently-touched objects, and most importantly wash your hands often.
