Judge to hear more on Arizona election audit challenge, doubts voter privacy
(KYMA, KECY/ AP News) - A Maricopa County Judge will continue to hear the challenge against the Republican-led 2020 election audit on Wednesday after saying he is not convinced that voter secrecy is being upheld.
Last week, Arizona Senate Republicans led a subpoena of 2020 election material for audit as they continue to try and prove a miscount of ballots from the 2020 Presidential election.
As ballot recounting continues at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Judge Daniel Martin declined to extend a previous judge's order until he hears more on Wednesday.
“I will share with you all, I am not yet persuaded that there has been a showing that the rights of the voters in Maricopa County are being protected,” Martin said.
The Arizona Democratic Party and the lone Democrat on the GOP-controlled Maricopa County Board of Supervisors sued the state Senate and the contractor overseeing the election audit, Cyber Ninjas, which led to this hearing. They want the recount of the 2020 presidential election won by President Joe Biden halted unless they get guarantees that voter privacy and ballot secrecy is ensured.
Dozens of workers on began a hand count of all the Maricopa County ballots at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum last Friday.
