Isaac strengthens into a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean and Tropical Storm Joyce forms
MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say Isaac has strengthened into a hurricane in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean and could cause dangerous waves in parts the Azores. And Tropical Storm Joyce formed Friday in the Atlantic, though it wasn’t threatening land. There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect for either storm. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says waves from Isaac could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions in the Azores. The center earlier said waves could affect parts of Bermuda, but didn’t include that cautionary information in a later advisory.
