IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - There are about four weeks left until the 3 seats are filled for the Imperial City Council with six candidates in the race.
Ida Obeso-Martinez is running against Luis Garcia, David Escobar, Stacy Mendoza, Ma Elia Valdez and James Tucker.
Martinez says she grew up in the city of Imperial and hopes to serve the people of the city.
"I want a seat on that table to be able to give back and to be able to hear the residents and see what they need and want for our city to prosper and grow," said Obeso-Martinez.
Martinez says when speaking to voters her main focuses are opening new parks, cleaning the city and creating new business in the area.
She says she has talk to the community, residents and city employees about ways to improve parks around the city.
"I would like to see that we are fully funded and staffed to be able to keep these parks nice and green for our families to enjoy,” said Obeso-Martinez.
Mortgage loan officer Gabby Olguin Nixon says she’s impressed with how Obeso-Martinez cares for Imperial County.
“I have seen her create for the community not just imperial but she has also given to Calexico, El Centro also just different communities," said Nixon.
Obeso-Martinez is having multiple events in the city of Imperial this week, starting with a mixer on Wednesday, October 13.
