Hormone therapy potentially linked to serious cardiovascular issues
(KYMA, KECY/ NBC News) - Men who undergo hormone therapy for prostate cancer could be at an increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
More than 13,000 men were involved in Lithuanian study and researchers found that prostate cancer patients who were treated with hormone-lowering drugs were at an elevated risk of death from cardiovascular disease, compared with those who were not treated with those drugs.
Hormone therapy is commonly used as a treatment for patients with prostate cancer.
The highest risk was for coronary disease and stroke.
Older men ages 70-79 were at an even greater risk of developing heart disease, with an almost five-fold higher risk.
