UPDATE: Lightning strikes fill Desert Southwest skies with smoke

Imperial National Wildlife Refuge says fires are now 100% contained

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperialites and Yumans woke up to smoke-filled skies Wednesday morning all wondering the same thing, "Where's all this smoke coming from?!"

The Imperial National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) confirms after battling the fire for about four days, firefighters achieved 100% containment on Saturday.

"There are still pockets burning on the interior within the line but are no threat to rekindling," NWR Administrator Elaine Johnson told Fox 9's Adam Klepp. "Control is expected by the end of the week."
