Arbor Day: Planting roots in Yuma

Yuma School District One teams up with the City of Yuma and Arizona Public Service to celebrate Arbor Day

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Depending on where you look there has been an Arbor Day for some time now. Here in the states, we celebrate the day on the last Friday of April.

But, like with anything else, some rules are meant to be broken. So, on April 21, 2021, a Wednesday, Yuma School District One celebrated Arbor Day their way.

The event was a coordinated effort between the school district, the City of Yuma and Arizona Public Service. During a special ceremony students, staff and parents came together to plant a few trees.

Thirty-seven trees to be exact, the City of Yuma brought in their Parks and Recreations team to help the kids plant the newest additions to their school. Principal Nicole Wilhelmy sees the new additions as something that will not only beautify her school but also give the children a sense of ownership.
