You have the coronavirus, what’s next?

COVID-19 Contact Tracers
The Yuma County Health Department's contact tracers spend the day making phone calls to those who test positive for the virus.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - As coronavirus cases increase, the Yuma County Health Department's contact tracers are making more phone calls to notify those who have tested positive, but what comes next?

The COVID-19 contact tracers gather vital information for symptoms, health complications, and family members who may have been exposed to the virus.

The Yuma County Health Department recommends the family in the same household as the patient who has tested positive for the virus, to isolate as well.

Health officials say a patient is cleared from the virus when they don't show significant symptoms for at least three days.

Once that person is cleared, family of the patient must begin their 14-day isolation.

After the patient has been cleared of not having any more symptoms and plans to return back to general public, health officials still recommend you wear a mask in public, wash hands frequently, and stay away from others who may be sick.

Can you develop COVID-19 twice? Health officials say it is unclear if you can get it again.
