Cases in Mexicali are nearing 1000

Tijuana leads Baja California in total cases

MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY) - COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to increase in Mexicali, but Tijuana carries the bulk of all cases and deaths.

According to the Ministry of Health in Baja California, 2,425 cases statewide, and 402 deaths in total.

In Mexicali, cases are at 942, while in Tijuana, cases have already long-since surpassed 1000.

The Secretary of Health in the State, Alonso Perez Rico, reports Baja California is third in Mexico in terms of cases numbers, after Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

Health authorities reiterated the following two weeks will see a peak of infections in Baja California, so it is up to citizens to follow protocols to flatten the curve.

The Ministry of Health also announced they are currently employing new medics and nurses at Mexicali's General Hospital, urging new graduates to join the ranks in the fight against COVID -19 in Baja California.
