Protestors rally at California state capitol
Demonstrators push Gov. Gavin Newsom to re-open the state
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Hundreds of protestors rallied around the California state capitol in Sacramento Monday, urging Governor Gavin Newsom to ease his stay-at-home order.
While demonstrators chanted, held signs, and waved flags outside the capitol, Gov. Newsom addressed statewide coronavirus restrictions inside. During his daily briefing, Newsom outlined plans to relax some parts of his order. For example, the Governor approved Ventura County's plan to re-open its golf courses and parks.
That announcement got a mixed reaction. It pleased those eager to get back to some level of normalcy. However, health officials in neighboring Los Angeles County are imploring its residents not to rush to these locations with the arrival of warmer weather. They continue to urge people to stay at home as much as possible, and to practice social distancing.
Governor Newsom says he'll release more details on his plans to relax stay-at-home restrictions throughout the state on Wednesday.
