Accused drunk driver crashes into house
Elderly woman killed in collision
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A car smashed through the wall of a home in Northern California Sunday. The crash killed one person, injured two others, and put the driver behind bars.
Sacramento County Sheriffs deputies say a grandmother, her son, and his wife were watching football at the time of the crash. The elderly woman died at the scene. Her son and daughter-in-law are expected to survive.
Neighbors say it's a terrible tragedy.
"You feel so violated. I mean, you're in your own home, doing nothing wrong, didn't do anything to anybody to provoke this, and everything changes. You know, their whole life is going to be upside down." says next-door neighbor Diana Burdick.
The car was wedged so tightly into the living room, firefighters had to cut a hole through another wall to reach the injured.
"It took 'em a while to find her 'cause there was a lot of debris. It's was a mess." says neighbor Lorrin Burdick.
The 45-year-old man driving the car is now being held on $1-million dollar bail. He faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and DUI resulting in injury or death.
