Search goes on for missing Oregon woman
Woman disappeared Sunday morning
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY) - Search teams continue to scour a heavily wooded area outside Portland for an Oregon woman who disappeared last weekend.
A neighbor last saw 20-year-old Allyson Watterson with her boyfriend just before noon on Sunday.
The boyfriend, Benjamin Garland, was seen alone in a neighbor's stolen truck the following morning.
Garland's family reported Allyson missing Monday afternoon. They claim the couple got separated while hiking. Investigators say they have doubts about their story.
"We do not believe they were in this area to hike, how and why they ended up in this area is something that we are still investigating as one of those things that we are looking into." said Detective Mark Povolny of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Povolny says there are still a lot of unanswered questions surrounding Allyson's disappearance.
"That means there is a delay of about 30 hours from the time we know Allison was last seen by the homeowner on Sunday around noon, until Mr. Garland's family reported her as missing on Monday evening. That delay is concerning to us and we're trying to put together what happened in the intervening time."
Deputies arrested Garland Monday evening on theft charges in connection with the stolen truck. He does not face any charges related to his girlfriend's disappearance.
