HSOY overflowing with pets
The Humane Society of Yuma (HSOY) recently announced its goal of becoming a no-kill shelter which means that the shelter will have a 90% or more live release rate.
While there is considerable progress, the HSOY says it still has a lot of work to do, especially as large volumes of animals are coming in this summer.
In May and June, the shelter took in 1,000 cats and fostered 370 of them.
“In the upcoming holiday season, we get really nervous because we see more animals enter the shelter,” said Executive Director Annette Lagunas. “Right now, we are full of dogs and kittens and cats. We are having an adoption special to move the already ready for adoption animals out of the shelter.”
If you can’t adopt an animal, there are other ways to help. You can volunteer, donate, and remember to take your pet to be spayed and neutered. Also, don’t forget to license and microchip your pets.
