Man hospitalized after fire at San Carlos Hotel
A fire sparked Thursday morning inside a room at the historic San Carlos Hotel where a mattress was caught on fire leaving one man in the hospital, according to Yuma Fire Department ( YFD ).
YFD said residents had evacuated the building when they arrived at the scene of the fire. Firefighters then noticed smoke in the hallway of the 3 rd floor coming from room 302 where a mattress and portable air conditioning unit was damaged by the fire.
According to YFD , a fire sprinkler had activated and extinguished the fire.
The man that occupied the room was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and was transported to the nearest hospital for further evaluation. Firefighters said another occupant of the building was evacuated after falling during the evacuation but further treatment was not required.
This is the 3rd fire sprinkler save at the San Carlos Hotel since 2017, YFD stated.
