Suspect behind bars, admits to burglary

After an extensive investigation by Calexico Police Department (CPD), a man was arrested last Friday on suspicion of a burglary that took place at Gio Electronics in Calexico on June 4.

CPD identified Christian Aguilar as the suspect who broke into the warehouse and allegedly damaged property. Officers said Aguilar allegedly stole electronics adding up to more than $1,000.

According to CPD, security footage from the break-in helped them identify the suspect. The suspect had distinctive tattoos on his neck and arms that were caught on camera.

After sharing the suspect’s photo on social media, CPD received an anonymous tip identifying Aguilar as the individual in the photo.

CPD said they were able to place a hold on Aguilar based on his description and name at the Calexico Port of Entry.

Aguilar was held by U.S. Border Protection as he attempted to cross into Calexico on June 14 where he was taken into custody by CPD.

Officers said Aguilar admitted to stealing an Xbox and Speakers from Gio Electronics, which he then sold in Mexicali.

Aguilar is facing charges on commercial burglary and felony vandalism.
