Mesa man arrested for impersonating a cop

A man was arrested on Thursday, May 9 in Mesa for impersonating a cop.

Sergeant Brandon Powell from The Arizona Department of Public Safety said he was driving westbound on US 60 when he noticed an SUV that had blue and red strobe lights and believed the vehicle was an unmarked law enforcement vehicle.

Sergeant Powell stopped and assisted 28-year-old Joshua Hillman, as he spoke with a female driver of the passenger car and noticed Hillman did not have a firearm on his waist. Sergeant Powell says Hillman wore a shirt with the letters, “Mesa Police” on a gold badge.

According to Sergeant Powell, he began questioning Hillman and determined he was not a law enforcement officer, nor was he affiliated with the Mesa Police Department.

Hillman told Sergeant Powell he had stopped the passenger car because he had cut him off.

Hillman was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office 4th Avenue Jail for impersonating a police officer and three counts of kidnapping.
