Baby found dead near highway in Mexicali
Mexican authorities are investigating the death of a 26-week premature baby as a homicide after it was found Sunday afternoon near a highway in Mexicali.
The Baja California Forensic Medical Service said the baby was identified as a boy. Authorities added the baby was born alive but died from a trauma to the head.
“According to the information we have, it was a natural abortion, but the fetus was born alive. It was a healthy premature baby, he breathed at birth, but the cause of death was not immaturity but as a result of the blow, a cranioencephalic traumatism,” said Cesar Gonzalez, director of the Forensic Medical Service.
Authorities said they do not know how long the baby was alive but said his face had noticeable injuries to it. He was also missing part of his brain along with a missing umbilical cord.
So far, no relatives have claimed the baby.
