Feds: Largest fraud scheme in history of FBI

Federal authorities say they broke up a nationwide $1.2 billion Medicare scam that started in South Carolina.

Andrew Chmiel, 43, is being charged in the conspiracy as well as more than 10 companies he owned.

The FBI said part of the alleged scheme involved peddling unneeded orthopedic braces to hundreds of thousands of seniors via foreign call centers.

The FBI says the suspects used the money to allegedly purchase luxury cars, yachts, and real estate.

In total, 24 individuals have been charged in this case, including defendants in California, Florida, New Jersey, Pennslyvania, and Texas.
