Illegal immigrants hiding among produce inside trailer arrested

A 45-year-old man was arrested Thursday night at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint after he was suspected of smuggling three illegal immigrants hiding among produce inside of a semi truck’s trailer.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a canine alerted to an odor coming from a semi-truck driven by a 45-year-old U.S. citizen. Agents searched the trailer, filled with produce from Mexico, and discovered three foreign national men, one from Guatemala and two from Mexico, hiding amid the produce.

All four men were arrested and the semi-truck was seized by authorities. The illegal immigrants will be processed for immigration violations and the driver will face federal human smuggling charges.
