Two women hospitalized after harvesting machine accident

Two women were hospitalized Wednesday morning after fire officials said they were involved in a packing machine accident in an agricultural field at County 20th Street and South Highway 95.

Somerton Cocopah Fire Department said firefighters responded to a report of a woman with an injured hip injury in an agricultural field. Upon arriving on the scene at County 20th Street and South Highway 95, firefighters found a woman who fell from a broccoli harvesting and packing machine. She was complaining of hip pain and loss of sensation to her legs.

Workers told authorities that a group of them were on the machine as it was moved from one field to another. As it crossed a field berm, the trailer went forward, flipped onto its front, and caused all workers aboard to fall onto the ground. The injured woman, who was on the outward side of the trailer, had a male coworker fall on top of her.

Another female worker also complained of an injured hip and knee. fire officials said.

Both women were transported to a nearby hospital.
