Two-vehicle crash leaves one injured

Firefighters responded to a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning that left one woman injured at County 11 3/4 Street and Avenue G.

According to Somerton Cocopah Fire Department, personnel responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident at County 11 3/4 Street and Avenue G at 11:04 a.m. Firefighters arrived on scene and discovered a black Chevrolet Malibu on the east shoulder of Avenue G with significant damage to the driver side’s quarter panel and all airbags were deployed. The lone female driver was found sitting on the ground next to her vehicle complaining of pain to her face, jaw, and left hip.

A white Ford F-150, with damage to its rear driver side, was discovered about 50 feet north of the Malibu, fire officials said. The driver was still in his vehicle and told firefighters that he was uninjured.

Both drivers told authorities that the Malibu heading southbound crossed the center line and struck the rear of the pickup truck heading northbound without braking . The pickup truck was struck with enough force that the drive shaft was torn completely off and ended up some 20 feet away from the vehicle, the fire department said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident.
