Border Patrol arrest sex offender suspected of entering U.S. illegally

Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted sex offender who allegedly entered the United States illegally this past Monday afternoon.

According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), agents apprehended a man suspected of entering the country illegally about 25 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry. The man was transported to the El Centro station where he was identified as 37-year-old Salvador Toribio-Gonzalez.

Records check also unveiled that Toribio is a convicted sex offender. CBP officials said Toribio was convicted in California in 2002 for sex with a minor. He was sentenced to 364 days in jail and 36 months’ probation. Toribio was deported in June of 2004 after serving his sentence.

Toribio is currently in federal custody pending prosecution for re-entry after removal.
