Cody’s Closet clothing drives to locals in need

Non-profit organization Cody’s Closet will be holding clothing drives around the county for locals in need. Since 2016, the charity has held more than 50 drives around El Centro at a local church, Grace Lutheran Church.

12 Volunteers work around the clock to provide the necessities for locals around the valley including teachers and victims of domestic violence. Heather White with Cody’s Closet said she has seen an increase of people coming to the facility.

“Here we see 150 a month and at the events we host we see about 100 at each one,” said White.

With the recent longest government shutdown in U.S. history, the organization has felt the impact.

“We had several federal agents that needed our help with canned foods, dog food and especially diapers for their kids, so that did wipe us out,” said White.

White also added that conversations are in the works about more funding just in case another shutdown happens in the near future.

“We have been blessed with more donations for the federal agents and we have that on the side for them in case of anything,” said White.

Since Cody’s Closet began they have held 50 clothing drives around the county.
