Man who shot officer with stun gun gets 3.5 years in prison
The man who shot a Yuma police officer with his own stun gun during a physical altercation was sentenced to three and a half years in prison on Thursday.
Gilbert Gallegos was found guilty of attempted aggravated assault for an incident that happened in September.
He is also required to pay a restitution amount of $9,462 to the City of Yuma.
According to Yuma police, the incident had happened on September 5, when Gallegos allegedly began fighting with the officer and got control of the officer’s stun gun, shooting him with it.
The officer was able to fight off Gallegos, who then reportedly took off running.
