CBP and Mexican authorities seize over 264 pounds of marijuana
Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents assisted Mexican authorities in seizing over 264 pounds of marijuana south of the international border near Sasabe, according to US Customs and Border Protection.
CBP said agents from the Tucson Station operating surveillance equipment observed several suspected drug smugglers attempting to make illegal entry into the U.S. east of Sasabe in the early morning hours of Monday, December 10.
When agents approached the area from the U.S. side, the group fled further into Mexico, leaving behind their cargo just south of the border. CBP agents called personnel from Mexico’s Secretary of National Defense office and guided them to the last known location of the smugglers.
CBP said officials completed an extensive search and seized seven bundles of marijuana concealed throughout the area.
No arrest was made in connection with this seizure.
“Bi-national law enforcement efforts are vital to the safety of both the U.S. and Mexico,” said Tucson Sector Border Patrol Chief Rodolfo Karisch. “Our partnership with Mexico is essential in disrupting illicit activities by transnational criminal organizations throughout the southwest.”
