Henry Martinez named new IID General Manager
Just last month, current Imperial Irrigation District general manager Kevin Kelley announced his sudden retirement.
After a month of searching, the board of director felt Henry Martinez fit the bill.
Martinez brings over 40 years of experience in the utility sector that he said will benefit him.
“I think all that experience both the electric and the water side as well gives me an idea of what to do and what to deal with in regards to the challenges that IID’s facing,” said Martinez.
In a news release, IID Board President Jim Hanks believes Martinez is the man for the job.
“Mr. Martinez has a long and impressive background and I believe he has the skill-set and experience to assess where the IID is today and chart a course that takes the district to where it needs to be in the 21st century,” said Hanks.
Martinez hopes to continue the work of his predecessor.
Martinez added, “My job basically is to pick up where he left off and continue on what those activities and those initiatives. In conjunction with the board make sure that IID continues to thrive and grow as an entity here in the valley.”
Ratepayers and the longevity of the company will be a priority.
Martinez said, “We want to make sure that we don’t waste money. We want to make sure that the project are proposed, approved and completed as planned. And there’s value brought back to the consumers in the long run.”
Martinez will assume the role of general manager when Kevin Kelley retires at the end of the month.
